By using The Tower at thetower.one, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, don’t use the service.
The Tower lets you anchor a SHA-256 hash of your declaration to the Bitcoin blockchain. We’re a tool that lets you prove a piece of content existed at a specific time. We don’t verify your claims; we time-stamp them.
Open-tier entries are stored as plaintext on our servers. Sealed and Time Capsule entries are encrypted in your browser before they reach us — we cannot read them and cannot recover them if you lose your key.
Bitcoin anchors are permanent. When you carve an entry, its hash is published to the Bitcoin blockchain. This action is irreversible by anyone, including us. You will not be able to “un-carve” an entry. Deleting your account removes our copy of your content but does not and cannot remove the hash from Bitcoin.
You hold your sealed keys. For Sealed and Time Capsule tiers, the encryption key lives only in your browser at the moment of carve. We strongly recommend you download the .key file we offer and save it somewhere durable. If you lose it, your sealed content is mathematically unrecoverable. We cannot help.
You own what you carve. You retain full rights to your content. By carving you grant us the limited right to store, hash, anchor, and display your content as described in the privacy policy.

Don’t use The Tower to:

Carve content you don’t have the right to publish (copyright, trade secrets you don’t own, others’ private communications).
Try to break the service: rate-limit evasion, hash collisions, brute-force lookups, scraping at scale.
We may remove our copy of an entry (we can’t remove the Bitcoin hash) and terminate accounts that violate these rules. We’ll notify you when we do.
The Tower is provided “as-is.” We don’t guarantee uptime, that Bitcoin will exist forever (we’re betting it will), that OpenTimestamps will continue operating, or that any third party will accept our receipts as evidence in their jurisdiction. The math is the proof; the legal weight is up to whoever’s evaluating it.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our liability for any claim arising from the service is limited to the total amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
These terms are governed by the laws of New Jersey, United States. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of NJ, except where local consumer-protection law provides otherwise.
We’ll notify you at least 14 days before material changes to these terms.
